I was presented with a great challenge this weekend by surprise and I took it (mainly because I really had no choice!)

Daniel and I got another project for a local business. In case you haven’t heard, that’s probably our biggest income increase and growth lately—Providing perpetual lead generation systems to local businesses. We only know of 1 other company that is doing it besides our Premier Internet Marketing, LLC and they are in Florida. THEY CHARGE 7X WHAT WE CHARGE!!

Anyway, this particular project is for pay-per-click strategies where we offer a service for regular companies to pay about 15% of the average cost per click. We get paid on performance level only, so there’s no risk to the company-either they get results or they don’t pay. Not bad, eh?

So Daniel is actually the expert when it comes to pay per click and setting up the capture/squeeze pages, but I don’t want any money coming into our bank accounts unless I have put value into the equation. I’m not a fan of getting paid for nothing (success secret!! There is no success without effort and sacrifice). So I asked him what I could do to help out with it…I should’ve known he would issue a difficult proposition…This is one reason I like him as a business partner-he challenges me constantly so I’m always improving (success secret! Get a challenging biz partner)

He said, “Okay, you can build a webpage, just on MS Word, HTML not necessary yet, with the ad copy for a squeeze/landing/capture form to go from a PPC-type ad.”

Whoa, I’ve never done this type of thing before. I’m used to web 2.0 stuff where people know you a little before they go to your capture page, meaning you don’t need as much copy to get them to opt in…This was not just a short capture page, but it also wasn’t a looooong sales page because we’re not selling anything. It’s actually a free offer to get the lead. (The shorter capture page is really cool and it’s a smokin’-good offer for free. Okay, long story short(er)… What the heck am I supposed to do?? Well, I say this a lot- “Why create mediocrity when you can copy genius”. I Googled “how to create sales copy for a squeeze page” and grabbed a few nuggets and opened up about 7 of my favorite sales letter-type of websites and started writing. It actually wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I just told myself. I’m not going to eat or sleep until I’m done with this. No more than 1 5 minute break every hour. It took me 2 hours and I was done. Awesome.

Entrepreneurs jump off the cliff and risk everything to build a parachute on the way down in time to save themselves. Sometimes the only thing to get you moving enough is to jump off that cliff.

When using social marketing on the web, what you will do is drive free traffic to your websites because you are going to share valuable information with people for free.  These people will appreciate the free information, and if they see that you have more valuable advice or content to share with them, then you will make is so that they WANT to visit your website.  This works even if you have a retail website.  For example, maybe you have a website where you sell music and dvds.  You can easily provide people with reviews of this music and these dvds on the numerous social networking sites that are available across the web.  Now, let’s say that you are one of the few people on the web that decided to provide a review on a new album.  You could provide this review through video, and article, or even a blog post.  When people decide to search on the web for reviews of that new album, you will likely have your review at the number one spot of the search engines.  Or, if you provide a few reviews of that new album, you may even have the first few spots for that search.  At the end of your review, you can mention to people that if they want a great price for that new album, then they can visit your website.  Or you can offer people an opportunity to sign up for your email list to get reviews on other products when they come out. 

I use the example of a retail website to show you how you can use social marketing for just about anything.  Obviously, if you are selling information on the web, you can use social marketing even easier.  For example, I am writing this article about how to make money with social marketing. Chances are that my website probably has a lot to do with social marketing since I am writing this article, right? 

Basically, what you are going to do in order to make money on the web with these social marketing tactics is simply by becoming social on the web.  If people like what content you have to share with them for free, then they are likely to be interested in your other products, services, and information.   Also, since these people start to see you as a real person, and not just some guy hiding behind a computer screen, then they are also likely going to trust you more as a person or company.  They will have more of a desire to do business with you. 

Here are some hints for those of you that don’t have a passion for your product yet or haven’t figured out what type of product to sell.

Put yourself in the mind of the general public. Have you heard of anything selling really well lately?

What are the major problems and what results are people willing to pay for? Obviously, there’re economic problems, but that’s getting into needs, which are logical. People buy on emotion and then justify their purchase with logic later, Remember?  Then again, if the economic problems are so big, so as to cause emotion, then people might buy. But by that time, it may be too late and they no longer have the money to purchase.

For information products, we suggest you look at Clickbank and search the marketplace and see what’s selling well.

For tangibles, go to Ebay and Amazon.com and check out what’s selling well and what’s getting great reviews. Don’t look at anything unless it sells well online…this is about free Traffic Generation and the purpose of market research is to get your ideal product and a way to get it purchased and shipped in the easiest way possible, going back to affiliates. Then the second most important aspect of the market research is to get your keyword research correct.

Now that you know the wants (not necessarily the NEEDS) of your prospects, it’s time to put your findings into your marketing techniques.

Let’s say you find a niche market, electrical generators. This is a buying target market. People don’t usually jump on Google and type in “Electrical Generator” just to casually learn about them. They are looking for the best type to fit their needs and break out their credit cards.

Now you know what part of the country people are buying them, how much they’re willing to spend, how often they buy them, etc.

Write your headlines to catch the eye of those looking for your particular benefits. “How a generator can literally save your family in the event of a hurricane!”  Gather info on how to solve their problems and write your information articles (which will be the basis of your exposure techniques.) More on this in further chapters…

Proctor & Gamble spend $500 Million dollars every year researching product opportunities…

Please remember that you should be spending 80% of your production time doing market and keyword research. One huge benefit of this is the fact that while you’re doing your research you have a great side benefit…you’re becoming the expert you need to be to provide great content and add value to the world of online info. Which, in turn, will give you the needed credibility to earn the trust of your prospects. If you’ll remember, this takes care of the 3^rd factor of why people won’t buy what you’re selling.

In other words, people do exactly what they want to do. Many times, this has NOTHING to do with their needs. If you think about it, you know this is true because if they made their buying decisions on their needs, everyone would save 20% of their income, they would not be in so much negative debt (consumer debt instead of the positive, business kind of debt. Instead of buying that big screen TV on their credit card with 17% interest, they use their credit for an investment or a business that not only pays them the interest, but then an extra 10%), and the economy wouldn’t be in such a terrible state. More importantly, they would have more money to buy our products and services…

BUT, they DO buy products and services, just not Daniel’s. Why? Because the ones selling the services and products are targeting their markets correctly!!

You see, Daniel is a logical thinker, which is probably only about 10% of the population, not a big enough market, especially when you consider the fact that most logical thinkers don’t need to save money because they’ve done all the right things in the right order to be financially stable, maybe even wealthy.

Whom did he target? People that are almost desperate to save money. They have money problems. These are the people that started the recession in the first place. If they already have the mindset to put them in bad money circumstances, you can guess that they won’t be willing to PAY to SAVE money.

The results that he got from his advertising campaign showed this. OOPS!!

Although he had the perfect product, well written ( and only $35 paid to have potentially hundreds of dollars in the bank extra at the end of the month!!), well executed, with lots of free info first to PROVE that the information and the techniques worked. Sales trickled in along with lots of emails saying “How DARE you try to sell me something!” This was a front-end product to begin a marketing funnel in order to get people to subscribe to a program that was $50 per month…you can probably guess at what the ultimate results were…the main company actually flopped on him. No more marketing funnel. But he does get sales trickling in as well as residual side income as a result of…well, the same principle in adsense.

3.   They don’t trust you.                                                   

You should base your research on these. Especially the first 2.

If your market can’t afford the product or service you’re thinking about selling, they will never buy it, obviously. So, we at The Free Traffic Formula have a favorite way of taking care of this potential problem: Target only people that have at least a little bit of extra money.

This has a magnificent side effect!! When you’re targeting your market correctly and putting yourself in the heads of people that have money, you actually start picking up the nuances of their attitudes toward life in general…Never a bad thing. Your income and general outlook is usually the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with, so everyone can use a healthy dose of “spending time in the minds of people with money”.

“Be careful with the friends you choose, for you will become like them.” W. Clement Stone.

Target a market that has money, and values “stuff” as an investment instead of a cost.

Keep that in mind. It should not need any more explanation.

“They don’t need it” is a little more complicated. You may say to yourself, “Everyone needs my health product” or “Everyone NEEDS my legal service (or my money saving service—hint!)”

If they DON’T THINK they need it, then they DON’T NEED it!! That’s why they probably should not get into providing a product, service, or information until they do their research on who’s buying what.

Smart marketers never have to try to convince anyone of anything! They go out and look for those people that are actively searching for what the marketer provides and they put it in those people’s faces. They get sales all day long with this approach.

Even SMARTER marketers do it THIS way:

Before they even consider a product to sell, they go out and look at what people are buying and sell THAT. It’s a little bit harder work, because it changes fairly often. But like everything else, once you do the work and you’re making money you can hire someone to do the research for you.

SO, in our view, the best thing to do is try to put yourself in others’ shoes. Most gurus will agree that we should know our prospects even better than our product or the company that provides it. This will help with not only the market research and targeting your market, but also the copy writing and sales campaigns to get new customers, keep them for longer (loyalty), and to keep them buying more stuff from you.

“They don’t trust you” doesn’t pertain quite as much to market research as it does to branding yourself on the net and establishing yourself as an expert online. But it does have to do with targeting people with money. Those that don’t have financial problems are usually more trusting and are MUCH less likely to think something is a potential “scam” because they don’t have a “victim’s mentality”. They are overall easier to work with.

When adding your “description” to the video, implement these in the following order…

First, type in your capture page address…

http://www.thefreetrafficformula.com  (Your Own Domain or affiliate link recommended.) The http:// and then the www. is very important particularly on Youtube because it turns the domain into a clickable link.

Second, on the next line after your website address…your phone number (EEK! Yup, this is a business, and you may need to talk to someone that has a question) and name. Then write a few paragraphs describing your video… what is it about? What are you going to cover? What are you helping the viewer find out? What problem are you attempting to help them solve? Odn’t make it about YOU, make it about solutions to THEIR problems

Third, after your description… add your whole related keyword

list… this can be as long as it needs to be, as long as it fits.

Your own name, of course. You ARE trying to become your own BRAND, right?)

I’ll will admit that the keyword technique is a bit lazy, but it still works fine. In the future, we’re sure that the algorithms will catch this and you’ll need to make the whole description all real content, which is better anyway.

You will hear us preach about this a lot. You should always keep your real name as a tag/keyword(or if you have a normal name, like Eric Green, turn it into a brand-able name, like digitalgangster—there’s a plug for a great guy…love and respect DG). This is how you can establish yourself as a brand on the internet .

 Plus, when you end up on the phone with a prospect (What?? Talk on the phone?? You act like this is a legitimate business with work involved!!—duh!) and they don’t seem to know for sure if you’re an expert in your field, tell them to type your name into the google search engine and see what happens…your name pops up with all kindsa articles, blogposts and videos…don’t worry , it won’t all be from you, either. Other people will pick up your great content and use it for their blogs, etc. We at the FTF find ourselves in the weirdest places—Korean, Arab, and Polish websites!! The main point is that you will be associated with multitudes of sites in your niche market. That looks really good in the eyes of your prospect.

Now back to why you want your competition’s company names as your keywords as well. There are thousands and thousands of people looking online for what you provide, we guarantee it. They may or may not have heard of you yet…they may have heard of your competition first. What does any smart consumer do when they’re not sure exactly what they want yet?

They GOOGLE IT!

Let’s have an example:

Okay, let’s say you’re an affiliate for the The Free Traffic Formula (congrats! You’re in a good spot!), and we have some really famous competition, like “Traffic Secrets VII”, or “Best Dang Ol’ Traffic Drivin’ Program” (Neither are real and we don’t want to front off our expensive and inferior competition. You know who they are, anyway) You make a title for your video like: “Is Traffic Secrets really the best program for you?” Or how about this one—“Why is that ‘Best Dang ol’ Traffic Drivin’ Program’ so DANG OL’ EXPENSIVE? Are there alternatives?”

Of course, someone will look up one of those programs on Google…what will they find? MY video comparing the tww side by side.

We’ve used this technique countless times and it is still one of our best sources of people calling us with buying questions. Get creative to make it work for you!

Ok if you can do that then you can be successful doing this

Okay, I didn’t really find it. Someone told me about it on a conference call about 20 minutes ago.

The call was by Josh Peak. He had a guest on his call tonight that had not followed before, but by the end of the call I could definitely tell why Josh “hangs out” with this guy. His name is Jeff Hoffman.

Here are his top 3 tools for internet exposure:

1.   Marketing Samurai—Google it, seriously!! I did and it’s great. 40 day trial for free!! IT’s still kinda in beta…there’s not even an affiliate program yet, but I’m sure there will be. You know me…”Never” use a program or buy a course if it doesn’t have a n affiliate program. This one is an exception…

2.   Google Reader—in order to keep up with your competition and spy on those you want to study. RSS feeds, etc. There’s just too much out there without pairing it down.

3.   Google trends: Self explanatory  www.trends.google.com

4.   Twhirl—an easy way to use twitter.com   www.twhirl.com
