One of the great ways to getting free targeted traffic involves what I am doing right now.  If you use article marketing the correct way, then your articles will get exposure across the web.  If people like you article, then they will likely go to your website to see what you have to offer.  Here is a warning:  When I first got introduced to article marketing, I was planning on writing and submitting about 10 articles per week.  This is a very bad idea.  Since many of the article directory sites actually read your articles before accepting them, if they see that you are trying to “flood” the market with your articles then they will assume that you are not submitting your best work every week.  It is best to only submit a couple of articles per week, gain the trust of the article directory sites, and then your best work will likely be shared on a number of respected websites.

One of the major ways that people implement in order to get free traffic to their websites is by using multiple SEO tricks, many of which I have never heard of.  I have the privilege of knowing a few people that own website management firms.  I told them that from what I understood, the best and easiest way to get free traffic through the search engines was to simply have a theme for each page, submit a sitemap to search engines like Yahoo and Google, and then create great content so that people will naturally link to your website.  They pretty much agreed with me and said that a lot of time when people focus on the many “SEO tricks” that are out there, they are actually putting their website at risk of being completely rejected by the search engines. 

Creating a “theme” for each website page allows the search engines to know and rank the type of content that you have provided for each page.  Even though meta tags aren’t used by search engines to rank websites anymore, they are still used in order to see what type of content is on your webpage.  So if you have meta tags related to the topic of “internet marketing for beginners,”  then you would want to make sure that your page(s) were directly teaching internet marketing tactics for beginners.

Creating a sitemap for a search engine like Google is rather easy.  Providing Google with a sitemap allows Google to be able to easily spider all of the pages on your website.  It also allows you to tell Google how often there are updates to your website so that you can have your content spidered more often.  This is especially helpful if you have a blog on you website.  If each day you post a new blog, you are going to want your page spidered and ranked asap.  If you don’t provide Google with a site map, then your website pages will eventually get spidered by Google, but it could take months, and your website may not get spidered as often as you want to.  On one of my websites, I was only getting my home page spidered by Google.  Within about a week after I submitted my sitemap, I started to get a number of my website pages spidered and ranked, and then after about 1 month, my website started to get spidered a couple times a week because I am constantly adding to my blog.  As a result, my search engine rankings for my blog and website are really high for a website that has only be around for 6 months!  If you start to get your websites spidered like mine, and if you theme each of your pages, then you will start to get lots of free traffic through the search engines.  Also, if you are providing great content on your website, people will start to naturally link to your website, which will provide you even more free website traffic. 

It might get me some hate-mail, but what else is new?

Most of what is being peddled as “internet marketing training” is actually a bunch of watered-down, copied B.S. It’s anything BUT “marketing”, really.

Not that I have anything against copying…

In the words of an old master, “Why create mediocrity when you can copy genius”?

Or how ’bout this one? “It’s okay to be a copycat as long as you copy the right cat.”

Of course, what I mean is that you should derive creative ideas and inspiration from the material of others.

But at least make sure it actually works in the real world or on the internet before you ask people to spend their hard-earned money on it.

If you’ve spent any time at all reading or watching this stuff, and then actually trying to put it into ACTION, then I don’t have to convince you.

Here’s an example…

We all know that headlines and copy are very important when it comes to persuasion and getting people to read your marketing… and getting them to buy.

Well, let’s say I’m an “opportunity seeker” and I want to sell something that a bunch of people will buy. And let’s also say that I don’t care about whether or not I’m contributing anything valuable to the world. All I want to do is make money, and it doesn’t matter to me whether I’m helping anyone or not.

Simple.

I go and buy a classic advertising book from 50 years ago, summarize and plagiarize the main concepts, change the words “How to write a headline” to the words “How to write a Google AdWords headline”… and VOILA!

Now I can sell you that training program for five hundred bucks, and you’ll have NO IDEA that you’re getting the same information as you could have gotten by spending twenty bucks on a solid, classic marketing book.

What most people sell as “marketing” or WORSE, “Internet Marketing” just isn’t good marketing training.  Period.

And most of the people who are trying to sell you this stuff really have no idea what works and what doesn’t work. They’re making money selling you ideas they got from other people… not teaching you how they really make their money.

Don’t forget that little skeptic in your head that says, ”If this works so well, this person should be using the principles they’re teaching…I think I’ll investigate further.”

They may or may not get your money, depending on some basic marketing principles that we can’t go over in this …you’ll have to wait.

This little bit of advice involves creating a simple sitemap and submitting that sitemap to the search engines.  From what I have seen, this is the number one thing that you can do in order to get Google and other search engines to start spidering your website for content.  Once you get them to spider your content, then they can easily index and rank it. 

I have a number of blogs on my different sites, and by using this one technique Google has  started to spider my blog very frequently which has been able to get me a whole lot of free visitors to my website.  This normally doesn’t come instantly, but it normally starts a couple of weeks after I submit my sitemap.  So, even if your website is completely new, this one technique can still work, and it works because this is what most search engines WANT you to do in order to tell them that you have content on your site worth ranking. 

Now, I actually have no idea how to create a sitemap by myself, so I use a simple sitemap creator software program that will create my sitemaps for me.  These tools usually only require a few minutes of my time and greatly reduce the confusion of what you should include in these sitemaps. 

After you have created your sitemap and uploaded it to your website, you will then just need to head on over to www.google.com/webmasters/tools in order to inform Google of your sitemap.  This is also a simplified process which should only take a few minutes of your time. 

Soon after you submit your sitemap to Google, you can then log back into your webmasters account and start to see what portions of your website have been spidered by Google (Remember to be patient!  This can happen immediately, but will likely take a couple of weeks).  You will also be able to see the top keyword phrases that your website has started to be ranked for.  After you learn how the whole process works with Google, you can then head on over to Yahoo and other search engines and follow the same steps with their search engines.  At the end, I think you will be pretty happy with the results!  This is the absolutely best thing I have done for my websites that has improved their search engine rankings.

O.K., so another free traffic technique that I dislike is methods where you earn “click credits” to your website by either purchasing them or visiting other people’s websites as a part of a “let’s all click on each other’s websites community” so that we all get free visitors.  I have seen sites that promote this type of “community” and I have even seen them advertise that the traffic is “targeted.”  They are lying.  Don’t believe them.  How could that traffic in any way be targeted?  It just doesn’t make sense.  Everyone joins that type of website for one reason:  in order to try to get free targeted traffic to their OWN website.  Just don’t fall for the hype.  With most all websites, this type of traffic ain’t gonna work for ya!

Now for some really effective ways for getting real targeted traffic to your websites:

#1:  Taking advantage of the growing popularity in video sharing sites.

This method is really hot right now.  Why?  Because it really works!  I personally have been able to enjoy the massive amounts of free traffic that this method can bring.  Also, there is software available across the web that will submit your videos to multiple sites all at once.  Imagine:  You make one video, but then send that same video to 40 different websites.  Now, if you have created a decent video with a good title, then you are probably going to get at least a couple hundred video views per month on many of those video sharing sites.  200 views times 40 different websites is 8,000 exposures for your website per month!  And that is just what one decent video can do for you.  Imagine if you created just 5, two-minute videos each week!

#2:   Creating viral methods for obtaining website visitors

It just makes sense.  If you have a website with great information that leaves each visitor wanting more, then each visitor is likely to tell other internet users about your website.  Even if what you may offer just a weekly newsletter or a simple eCourse, if that content is really good, then people will tell their friends to check it out.  So, create what I call “viral content” for your website and you will get a whole lot of word of mouth marketing for your businesses.

There are many other viral methods for obtaining free website visitors.  A personal favorite of mine is creating a viral eBook.  On a couple of my websites, I provide (for free) certain eBooks to my visitors.  I allow these visitors to share this eBook or sell it to others at a profit.  I take extra time in order to assure that I am giving them an eBook that provides real value instead of just a “pass-along” book with a bunch of my affiliate links embedded in it.  One of the best examples that I have seen of a great quality viral eBook is Yanik Silver’s “Million Dollar Emails” book.  It contains hundreds of pages of quality information on email marketing.  It is a book that tons of people WANT to give away as a free bonus on their websites.

#3:  Writing articles

If you do things the right way, writing articles will get you a flood of free traffic to your websites.  Here is an example of a correct way:  In any article of mine that goes on the article directory sites, notice that I haven’t embedded a bunch of my affiliate links.  Notice how I haven’t tried to sell you on any of my products.  Notice how I am actually addressing the article title and giving you the answers that you wanted. 

If you write articles and actually provide people with good content, then your articles will get read and also will be accepted in the majority of cases by the article directory sites.  Remember that these article directory sites provide a special area for authors to tell more about themselves and their websites.  It is called the “About the Author” box.  I have provided an example below…

In my about the author box, I might say:

“Hello, my name is Daniel Pereira and I created this article to help people drive more free traffic for their online businesses.  Get free eBooks, conference calls, and a free mini course, all designed for driving free traffic to your websites.  All you need to do is just visit me today at www.TheFreeTrafficFormula.com. “
